A week ago, on May 27, Dragon Quest turned 25. I drew this to commemorate 25 years of Dragon Quest. May it continue to be wonderful for many more years to come.

I know this is late. But it has actually been sitting around finished for a while. Three days, at least. I needed help scanning it, and I was occupied with a day of sick yesterday. So here it is today.

It's nothing too special. I did it quickly. But I like it enough to put it on here. I just wish my horrible chicken scratch "Happy 25th anniversary, Dragon Quest!" didn't cheapen it as badly as it did. What is it, a greeting card?

For those who don't know, I love, love, LOVE me some Dragon Quest. The only thing that keeps me from doing fanart is the fact that I am a huge Toriyama fan, and I have trouble emulating such an iconic style. With some properties, like Golden Sun, I don't mind adapting into my personal style. With properties like Okami, I can get close enough to the style to satisfy myself. With Dragon Quest and any Toriyama material, however, I have a ton of trouble doing because when I draw it in my style, it doesn't look right. Toriyama has a distinct, simple style. And there isn't much room for imitators as a result. This one was in my style, of course, but there isn't too much style-showing off here, really.

But I love it, so there you go. That's 25 years of Dragon Quest, and by extension, 25 years of JRPGs. I didn't do this on the day itself, but I did other dragon quest-y things on other sites and in the real life.

Done with Prismacolor colored pencils and outliner pens on cream-colored pastel paper.
